Tenon Cutter

Choose the gage block that matches the die size you are threading your tenon for — M9 through M15 are included. The gage block sets the cutter gap so your tenon diameter is correct before you touch the lathe.

Place the selected gage block between the cutter blades and close the tool onto it. Tighten the locking fastener firmly. This ensures both cutting edges are parallel to each other and spaced to produce the exact target diameter — no measuring required at the lathe.

• Confirm the locking fastener is fully tightened after setting with the gage block.
• Verify the blank is centered and running true in the lathe chuck before advancing the cutter.
• The blank end should be turned or sanded close to round to reduce interrupted cuts.

1. With the lathe running at a moderate speed, advance the Tenon Cutter squarely onto the end of the blank.
2. Apply steady, light forward pressure — let the cutters do the work.
3. Continue until the tool seats fully and the tenon is complete.
4. Test-fit the tenon in your die or pen kit tube; it should enter smoothly with no wobble.

The same gage-block setup process applies whether you are turning a tenon for a ballpoint, rollerball, or other pen style — simply select the block that matches that particular die. If you are unsure which block corresponds to your kit, measure the die's interior bore and match it to the nearest gage block size.
